Your course will require you to explore current health events and provide a write up on articles you read in journals.  We recommend you use the CMC Libraries' resources to do this - the information will be peer-reviewed, easily accessible and high quality.  This will save you time and get you a better base of knowledge!  

Both our print and electronic resources will be useful to you, and here are a few tips to get you started:

- Use a database, NOT Google!

• A database - a collection of vetted and organized resources - will get you high-quality, peer-reviewed information and you will NOT have to sift through thousands of results to get to it.
   
• The databases will provide you with some great ideas for medical terminology since every item in the database has been described with a controlled vocabulary i.e. terminology. 
   
• Top databases to use for medical terminology can be found through our science, biology and nursing databases.  Some of the more applicable ones are found in the boxes on this page - but don't limit yourself if you want to explore further!
  • EBSCO Discovery will search a variety of databases at one time. 
  • PubMed has a great tool you can use through the medical terminology (MeSH) page to build a search that is extremely well targeted.
  • CINAHL has a very focused search screen and options if you go to that database directly instead of only through EBSCO Discovery.

EBSCO Discovery portal is a gateway to over 60 databases that includes staple collections for nursing and medical research such as CINAHL Complete, Medline (PubMed), and PsycARTICLES. Elsevier journals and thousands of pertinent ebooks.
